Generosity in the spirit of Mercy

The Mercy Community Services’ Romero Centre would like to extend our greatest thanks to the Sisters of Mercy and the Staff at the Brisbane Congregation Office. This week, as part of their Mercy Day celebrations, they collected food and hygiene items for people seeking asylum in Brisbane. Their collection included tinned food, rice, pasta, honey, shampoo, toothbrushes, cleaning supplies and other household items. This generous donation will support many people seeking asylum who are struggling to survive with limited or no income.

About Mercy Day

Mercy Day celebrates the opening of the first ‘House of Mercy’ in 1827 in Dublin, Ireland. While the official anniversary is 24 September, Mercy Day festivities are held throughout the week through the celebration of various community events and spiritual tributes. The Feast of Our Lady of Mercy is celebrated annually by those connected to the Sisters of Mercy community and ministries across the world. Together we reflect on the legacy of mercy and compassion inspired by Catherine McAuley founder of the Sisters of Mercy. It is a very special day for Mercy Community Services, as staff and volunteers gather to celebrate our rich history and heritage and recognise the innovative work our people are doing to support and inspire people in need. More information.
